Welcome

ON THE 13th CONFERENCE OF HUNGARIAN NEUROSCIENCE SOCIETY

Dear Colleagues,

The XIIIth Conference of the Hungarian Neuroscience Society (HNS) will take place at the Lágymányos Campus of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in January 2011. On behalf of the Program Committee and the local Organizing Committee, it is our pleasure to greet all of our visitors, who work in the wide and extended field of neurosciences, or entered our homepage just out of curiosity.

Meetings of the Society represent the most important forum for the Hungarian neuroscientists since a long time. In addition to provide an occasion to meet colleagues and discuss recent results, organizers have always made a special effort to cover the largest possible spectrum of neurosciences by inviting foreign and Hungarian speakers who are experts in different fields. The upcoming meeting takes this effort even further, as the Institute for Psychology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences participates as co-organizer of this meeting. Their contribution is strongly represented in the program.

During the two-and-a-half days of the Conference, participants can attend five plenary lectures and five symposia. The Program Committee has invited renowned Hungarian and foreign plenary lecturers with international reputation from various fields of neuroscience, and organizers of symposia were asked to follow the same practice in selecting speakers. As a special highlight of the meeting, some of the plenary lectures and symposia will cover cognitive neurosciences, an area probably less represented during previous meetings. This part of the program clearly represents the interests of the Institute for Psychology. In addition to the invited talks, sufficient time will be provided for the members of the Society to present their results in the form of posters, and conduct lively discussions with each other and with the participating foreign experts. All in all, organizers are confident that participants will attend exciting talks providing new information and exchange ideas with each other inspiring new thoughts and research activities.

It is a special honor for the Department of Physiology and Neurobiology that it was trusted with the organization of the Conference of the HNS, when Eötvös Loránd University, the oldest continuously functioning university in Hungary, is celebrating the 375. anniversary of its foundation. We will do everything, what we can to ensure that this Conference fit into the chain of events celebrating this special occasion, and we hope that it will further enhance the outstanding image of the university in Hungary and in Europe.
